About PhiTechs Designs, LLC

PhiTechs Designs, LLC was founded solely for the purpose of enriching the lives of those who are physically challenged as well as  those who provide care for these individuals.  The Founder and Owner, Bette Guzman, is a physical therapist whose observation in      the clinical setting led to her desire to design aftermarket wheelchair parts.

PhiTechs Designs, LLC is a small-based Midwest business (located in the Des Moines, Iowa area) founded in September 2007, by        a female veteran.  She has over 20 years experience as a health care provider, serving in the military and civilian sectors.  During this time, she observed the need for more user-friendly wheelchair parts.  Her commitment to her patients and her determination to solve     this challenge led to her first product, Accu-Grips™

Accu-Grips™ replace the existing leg rest and wheel lock grips on most manual wheelchairs.  They are packaged as a 4-piece set,    with two grips for the leg rests and two grips for the wheel locks.  See PRODUCTS for details.

With the design patent issued, and the utility patent pending, she has now begun to market her product. The Accu-Grips™ have been greeted with enthusiasm by health care providers to wheelchair users alike during public demonstrations and field testing.  Accu-Grips™ offer a novel design, with exceptional quality material, which is easy to clean and install.  Additionally, Accu-Grips™ are easy to see due to the bright, bold color and are touch friendly, conforming to the natural contour of the hand.

Her first exposure for the Accu-Grips™ was in April 2009, at the Arkansas Health Care Association Trade Show.  This Trade Show      was held for those employed by nursing homes and assisted living facilities.  The reviews she received from those attending the Trade Show far exceeded Guzman’s expectations.  Some of the comments included, “Where can we buy these now!  What a great idea!      This makes so much sense!  Fantastic!  We could use these!”

Because of the positive feedback Guzman received, she continued to market the Accu-Grips™, receiving two awards in June 2009:

Her awards include:

  • Silver Medallion, 52nd Annual Minnesota Inventors' Congress Invention and Idea Show.
  • University of Minnesota AgrAbility, Second Prize, 52nd Annual Minnesota Inventors' Congress Invention and Idea Show.

In September 2009, Guzman's new product, Accu-Grips™ was featured on the website of McKee, Voorhees, and Sease, PLC under "MVS News," in an article entitled, "MVS Client Receives Two Awards at Invention Congress."

PhiTechs Designs, LLC is proud to announce that the Accu-Grips™ are made in the U.S.A.  All individuals involved in the design,   patent process, manufacturing, packaging and distribution were hired and employed in the U.S.A., with most individuals located in Iowa.
